Last week I found out that the Ninja Turtles were going to be at Patriots Place on Tues Feb 10 and it just so happens that Hunter is a huge TMNT fan these days so I had asked my boss if I could swap a Friday for a Tuesday so that I could have it off and I would just pull him out of school that day. I had a big plan of going to do the Ninja Turtle thing, then having lunch at one of the many restaurants in the plaza, and ending the day by going through the Patriots Hall Museum. When I mentioned this to Hunter last week, his eyes lit up and he was so excited for it. Every day he would mention to me and/or Alex about how "next Tuesday I get to meet the Rafael!!" and I was really looking forward to this ultra-special day for the two of us.
When the snow storm rolled into town on Monday and it looked like Tuesday we were going to be stuck inside (again), I was so disappointed at the thought of my plans being ruined. By the time we woke up Tuesday morning, the roads were cleared and I called to get the confirmation that the Turtles would indeed still be there (woohoo!!). I got our bag of snacks ready, Hunter picked out his Ninja Turtle shirt to wear, I made sure my camera was fully charged, and both of us were super excited to start our adventure. However, when I went to get my car warmed up, the car keys were nowhere to be found. I searched everywhere for them (including purses I haven't used in over 2 years!) and I called/texted Alex a million times to ask him if he knew where they were, but he didn't answer. The minutes continued to tick by and I slowly began to realize that our super-special-mom-and-bubs-day was no longer going to come to a reality. At 10:30 Alex finally called me back, and as it turns out he had put the keys in a secret-hiding place after he finished playing musical cars that morning (which as it turns out happened to be in the pocket of his winter coat that was hanging over the shower curtain in the downstairs bathroom...right next to the snow pants which I had checked a trillion times...ugh). The show started at 11 and it was about an hour away, so alas, we did not get to meet the Ninja Turtles.
However, Hunter and I decided not to let that ruin our day, so together we conjured up a Plan B. We would go to Taco Bell for lunch, hit up Toys R US so that Hunter could pick out a new toy, and then go to the movies to see Strange Magic. He actually seemed even more excited about Plan B than he did about Plan A!! He had his favorite food in the world for lunch, he picked out a Hawkeye Bow/Arrow for his new toy, and he ended up getting to watch the movie with one of his best buds, Joshie! So it wasn't exactly what I had intended for this special edition of Mom and Bubs day, but I think we would both agree that it was a great one none-the-less (Hunter even spat out a "you're the best, Mom!!" at one point during the day).
I don't have too many photos of the events, but here are a few of Hunter's (ahem...I mean Hawkeye's...) target practice with his new bow/arrow set:
We even squeezed in some time to make cookies to add to his school-friends valentines, his favorite part of which was washing the cookie-cutters (he thinks it is so cool to be a big boy and to be able to do chores like this...I wonder how long that will last):
