We just got back from our favorite home away from home destination...Corolla, NC. A week of walking the beach, riding bikes, playing games, sitting in the hot tub, building sand castles, finding treasures, day-trip excursions, watching the sun and moon rise over the ocean, looking for native wild life. No schedules, no plans...just take the days as they come. This is our second time visiting the Outer Banks, and it is the second time where I was actually sad watching the house move further away from the rear view mirror as we had to drive away from it yesterday. Usually I am more than ready to get home after a few days of vacationing...hotel-living gets old quick for me. But when we visit the OBX, we have our own house, our own kitchen, our own food, our own pool, our own beach access, our own hot tub. We literally do have our home away from home...
We drove down last Saturday morning. The ride was long, but we were able to keep ourselves entertained for the most part.

| Hunter was packed days in advance of the trip |
Once there, we relished the views from our deck. Every where you looked was a vision that could be a picture on a post card, I could never get sick of this view...
 |
| I loved watching this Pelican family go on their daily adventures along the coast |
 |
| If you look with a super-duper telescope, you might be able to see a little black speck in the ocean on this one...that would be the fin of a dolphin. We got to see schools of them hopping along the coast line in search of breakfast. |
Throughout the week, we took a couple of excursions around the island:
a) To the Wright Brothers Monument (I still say they are related to me some how and I should be getting royalties from every airline and spaceship out there that uses their design). In all seriousness, this is a very interesting story and I strongly recommend reading into the nitty gritty details of what these guys did to accomplish so much
b) To the NC Aquarium

| Even these teeny tiny alligators give me the hibbity jibbities....ewwww |
 |
| Dr Hunter got to rescue, diagnose, treat, and release a sea turtle all on his own...he was so proud of himself |
c) To see Wild Horses...I took millions of photos here...tried to pick the images that captured the most essence...but to be honest, its one of those situations you really need to experience to truly grasp how truly amazing this was
 |
| This is considered a "main road" in this area. You actually have to drive on the beach in order to get out here. Here is the local wild life, just chilling... |
 |
| Our tour guide said its very rare to see horses on the beach this early in the season....so it was definitely our lucky day!! |
 |
| Poor Bubs couldn't stay awake for the beach part... |
d) We climbed the Jockey Ridge Dunes....at times it was almost like being in a desert
