Mother's Day...and Other Stuff

I had the best first Mother's Day. It began at 6:30 in the morning when Hunter woke us up, his excitement for such a special holiday kept him from sleeping any longer. He urged us both out of bed bright and early so that we could make the most of the day. We all had an early breakfast and then took a family trip to the grocery store to do our weekly food stock-up. After the shopping trip I went to Church where I was able to listen to a sweet story told by the Deacon about a child talking to God just before being born. The child was a little apprehensive about making the journey in this world of unknowns, but God eased his mind by telling him that He hand picked a special Angel to help guide him along the way (that Angel, of course, being the mom) and that comforting thought swept away all of that child's fears.  For a new mom this puts into perspective just how important her role is in her child's life, not that I didn't already know how much Hunter needs me, but I thought this was a cool way to interpret it.

After Church, the Light Trio and Aunty Allie, headed down to the National Cemetery on the Cape to bring my mom some flowers clipped from my gardens (they weren't exactly the healthiest flowers in the world, but I'm sure she would appreciate the sentiment). Unfortunately I forgot about how congested traffic can be when crossing over the Cape bridges on nice-weather-weekend day, so we did end up in a little bit of stop and go...

But when you are stuck in the car with this handsome man telling you all sorts of silly stories, the road rage never actually kicks in....

We eventually made it over the Bourne Bridge and arrived at our next destination, the Cape Cod Canal, for some bike riding. The trip took us from the Sagamore Bridge to the Borne Bridge back to the Sagamore Bridge and consisted of a lot of "awww, he's so cute" comments from travelers going in the opposite direction...

And of course we had to do our traditional post-bike-ride ice cream run at the neighborhood Friendly's...

The final destination of our journey was at Manomet Beach so that we could hunt for the perfect Mother's Day rock to add to my mom-in-law's garden. This was the first time that Hunter had been to the beach, thus it was his first exposure to crawling around in sand. As is the case with most children his age, Huntski was under the impression that the endless piles of sand is actually a gourmet snack baked especially for him, so needless to say much of our time was spent trying to keep the sand out of his mouth. Predictably, he was able to sneak a few fist fulls in, but I am a firm believer in the motto "a little bit of sand never hurt anyone"...ok, I'm not sure if that is an actual motto or not, but we're still going to go by it anyway. Besides, I, myself, used to be a sand-snacker back in the day and I turned out ok....
We found the perfect garden rock.....later that night Hunter personalized it for his Grandma Glenni (don't worry, no secrets are being spoiled her, she has already seen it)

Hunter really wanted me to let him take a swim in the ocean, but I told him he would have to wait until next time
The day ended with some grilled food followed by story time with Hunter. Through out the day there were lots of snuggles, hugs, smiles, and fun. Come to think of it....if that is what Mother's Day is all about, then I'm going to have to go ahead and say that every day in the Light House is Mother's Day (well the exception being that on the actual "Mother's Day" I didn't have to do the dishes). I hope all the other mom's out there were able to enjoy theirs just as much as I did!!

Moving on....last night Hunter made a new friend, and we were able to catch it on tape!!  This is a little on the longer side for a blog video, but I thought it was too cute not to share...

And last, but not least, Hunter had his nine-month check-up today.  Here are his 9-month stats:

Height: 30.5 " (98.28%)
Weight: 20 lb 7 oz (55.55%)
HC: 45.5 (62.03%)

Favorite Book: Dear Zoo
Favorite Food: Pureed Steak and Apples
Tooth Count: 2 Bottom, 1 Top
Favorite Word: Dad

In other words....9 months later, he is still a bundle of perfection!
