The Light House is currently on Day 8 of the Mama Mia Movie Watching Obsession phase. It all started when Bubs and I were in the basement getting Charlie's dinner ready when he had the idea of picking out a movie. Half jokingly I asked if he wanted to watch Mama Mia (a film that he had only seen bits and pieces of before when he woke up early from a nap and caught his Aunty Allie and I watching it) and he enthusiastically said "Yeah!!!". Since then, every night when we get home he makes a bee-line for the TV room, makes sure the DVD is indeed in the player and then brings me the remote so I can turn on the TV for him. The most intriguing part about this ordeal is that before this Hunter would not sit still for anything on television. Sure there are a few programs that will hold his attention for a bit longer than a few minutes, but for the most part he wants to be playing versus watching....so the fact that he is so captivated by this amuses us greatly.
That being said, for those of you who have not had the privilege of seeing this work of art, it certainly is a movie that makes for a fun girls night with a group of friends that you can sing and dance with through it; however, now that I have had to watch it so many times in a row, it has given me opportunity to scrutinize just how horribly written the screen-play really is. There are so many lines and scenes that just make absolutely no sense, and the more I watch it, the more I find. The severity of this awfulness has turned into a joke between Alex and I and now we just enjoy making fun of the absurdness...don't worry, we do this in the background so we don't spoil the magic of it for Hunter while he is in this phase. That being said, on the nights when Alex is busy doing homework, and it is just Bubs and I watching....I have no trouble ignoring all the illogical lines and dramatizations and will sing and dance to it just as loud as he allows me (some nights I am not allowed to sing at all, and he will physically cover my mouth and plead that I stop singing...other nights he will hand me whatever prop he decides is a microphone while he strums his guitar so we can act out what is on the screen). Tonight has been my favorite viewing thus far, as we threw arts and crafts into the mix while we watched, sang, danced, (rewinding our favorite songs because sometimes 1 time through just isn't enough), snacked, laughed, played, and overall just enjoyed a much need low-key, mommy-son, night together.
In other Hunter news....not sure if I have mentioned this yet or not, but he can spell his own name, and he has been working on writing it out (well, he can sort of do the "H" anyway). He also can spot the letter "h" from miles away on any sized sign, billboard, license plate, etc. and declares there is an "H for HUNTER" whenever he sees one. We received a stellar review from one of his teachers (they are currently working on all of the children's portfolios), she couldn't say enough good things about him. Of course his dad and I already know he is perfect...its just nice to hear it from outside the family!!
