And He's Off.....

Alex and I witnessed Hunter crawling forward for the very first time. We have not been told if he has done it in front of anyone else while we were not present, but even if he did it wouldn't count anyway. As my mom-in-law once told me "a baby doesn't have any firsts until his mama sees it", and I am going to stick by this motto!  This milestone event happened in Hunter's playroom while I had the video camera out. I was trying to get him to reenact the ferocious lion scene from the other day so I could capture it on film, and all of a sudden he just starts crawling toward a particular toy he had his eye on.  Up until this point Hunter had been getting to where ever he wanted to go by scooting backwards.  He much preferred practicing his walking as opposed to crawling, and he has even learned how to pull himself up to a standing position while holding onto one of us. I would have put money on him skipping the crawling stage and just waiting for the whole walking thing to work out.  So you can imagine our shock and amazement when all of a sudden he just starts doing it as if he has had months of experience.

We have been warned by many parents that once your baby starts crawling you will no longer have your freedom, and I absolutely understand what they meant!  All Hunter needed was that first time to get over the hurdle that was holding him back and now he is crawling all over the place, and at a much quicker pace than I was anticipating for his first time doing it. I brought him down to the t.v. room and put him in the middle of the floor then scooted back to the wall just to see what he would do. He made his way over to me in no time!  (I wish I had the camcorder for this one too to show just how fast he was moving; I tried to capture it on the still camera I was holding, but it just doesn't do it justice)....

Looks like we will be spending some time this weekend on baby proofing the house!!!
